Become a Parish Councillor and make a Difference in Your Community

Published: 13 July 2026

Do you want to help make our village a better place?

A Parish Councillor helps make decisions about the local area. It is a great way to help your community and the people who live here.

You do not need any special skills or experience. You just need to:

  • Care about your local area.
  • Listen to what people have to say.
  • Want to help make things better.

What Does a Parish Councillor Do?

Our Parish Council has 12 councillors. They work together to help everyone in the parish.

Councillors:

  • Go to Parish Council meetings.
  • Listen to local people.
  • Help make decisions about the parish.
  • Work with other councillors on local projects.

Some councillors do extra work on projects or groups. Others mainly go to meetings. You can help as much as your work and family life allows.

When Does the Council Meet?

The Parish Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Village Hall.

Anyone can come to the meetings. You can see how the Council works and talk about local issues.

What Does the Parish Council Look After?

The Parish Council helps care for many local places, including:

  • Two children’s playgrounds.
  • The Moat and Glebe.
  • The playing field.
  • The parish burial ground.
  • Street lights.
  • Benches.
  • Bus shelters.
  • Other community buildings and spaces.

The Council also:

  • Gives its views on planning applications.
  • Gives grants to local groups and charities.
  • Organises the Annual Community Awards to thank people who help the parish.

Why Become a Councillor?

Being a Parish Councillor lets you:

  • Help your local community.
  • Make local places better.
  • Have a say in important decisions.
  • Work with people who care about the parish.
  • Learn new skills.

Even if you only have a few hours each month, you can still make a real difference.
