The latest meeting of the Council took place in the Village Hall on the 11th. March and as it was the last in the current financial year and only one more meeting will be held before the election of a new Council, every effort was made to ensure that outstanding work had been completed.
One outstanding project is general maintenance work on the Burial Ground and this is planned to take place on the 14th. and 15th. April when it is hoped that the weather will be more appropriate.
Studying the overall budget for the year it was pleasing to see that in spite of undertaking some extensive projects, spending was within the predicted level and there will be a reasonable carry forward into the next financial year.
Following a question from a member of the Parish Council, RAF Shawbury has kindly identified that a small number of places are available at the Airplay (Behind the Station Gym). The Airplay is a Youth Centre (Funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund) that provides Youth Club type activities to the children of Service Families. There are currently a limited number of places that are being ffered to the Youth of Shawbury Village timings as follows:
Juniors (8-11 yrs): Tuesdays 1800 – 1945
Inters and Seniors (11-18 yrs) Thursdays 1800 – 1945
These may change after Easter!
All young people must be registered prior to attending at www.airplayconnect.org.
They should arrive for their first session with a parent/carer

The major consideration at the meeting was the forthcoming election on May 1st. and every effort is being undertaken to persuade residents of the need to have a full complement of Councillors elected. You have an exceptionally good Parish but it needs volunteers who are prepared to manage and oversee it and project it into the future. It is not an onerous task, doesn’t need high qualifications but just a commitment to help and advise. If you are interested please get in touch with the Parish Clerk who will happily give you information on how to put your name forward for election. Jack can be contacted by email at shawburypcclerk@talktalk.net or if you prefer give him a call on 01743236810 but be quick because time is running out for nominations to be made.
